Newspaper & Art Find

"Citizen K", by Nick Georgiou

Many of the newspaper art that I found seemed, to me, to be unoriginal. The way that the artists might have used the newspaper might have been cool but the "story" behind it was not deep. Georgiou had a very unique style. Although his work is a bit odd and not exactly my taste I still like the way he uses newspaper to create 3D sculptures but can also add his own twist. I liked the piece above the most because the newspaper structure is standing on its own and it looks like it was carefully done; each newspaper piece is rolled up just so.

Japanese Poster

In my room I had to take down the shades because they were starting to rip. The material was really interesting though and had this papyrus paper feeling. I brought in my old shades and cut a large rectangle out of it. Then using a chair top traced a circle in the middle of it. I then drew it in with red watercolor pencil and then painted over it with water. On one side I used black ink to paint a large Japanese cherry blossom. Using regular paint I mixed white and reds to get the pedal color. On the opposite side I wrote in black ink, "Japanese Cherry Blossom Tree By Emma"

Spray Paint

In English class one day I was looking at someone's spray-paint art on the wall and the more I thought of it the more I wondered how they got the different shadowing and details. The more I thought of it the more I wanted to try it. I have always been interested in the Greek culture so I thought I would start with a figure that was small and simple: The discus thrower.
I put this image through photoshop then printed it. After printing the image I used a blending marker to copy it on a harder type of paper. The first stencil I was was of the general shape of the discus thrower, the second was of the general shadowing, and the third was of the details of the face, muscles, and bone. This was my first test:

Using some gold spray paint from home for the general shape and using a bronze spray-paint I made a second test.

For the final test I spray-painted the whole figure onto the back of my iPhone case.

The second spray-paint project that I tried was for my friend that lives in South Korea. I bought a cardboard "H" from the Paper Source because her name is Hanseul. Then spray-painted it with the gold spray-paint. Then making a stencil of her name I spray-painted one side in bronze and the other with a neon pink.

Prom Video

For prom there was a contest on who could make the best video of asking their date out to prom. Most of the other videos were of people asking their dates while someone recorded it but I wanted to take a different spin on it. So I made a stop-motion film asking my date to prom. Here is the YouTube Video:
(He said "Yes" by the way)

Birthday Card

Coming up in March is my best friends birthday so I wanted to make a nice card. I hand drew "Happy Birthday" in pencil then went over it with a golden paint marker. For the border I used water color and for the border of the white area I also used water color. Inside the card I made the birthday cake and present 3D by just cutting to parallel lines and pushing them in and glueing the sides. I made the cake and present with an exacto knife. The flags also say happy birthday with I just glued on a string and put it through the paper.
