Translucency Project

In this project I was continuing my theme of evolution through time (past, present, and future). I used found organic material, paper cut outs of past animals and plants, drawings on paper towel of futuristic animals, and a human skull drawn from Sharpie in the middle.

The Pattern And Repetition Project

Although I didn't follow the guidelines fully the project still made my theme and statement come though. In the piece my statement is on the new age of food and how pesticides and genetically modified food is ruining more than just our health.

Juxtaposition Project

In this project we were to make a project using different types of stitches that we learned. It had to relate to our theme (Evolution) and contain two different types of stitches. Mine were the running stitch and the backstitch. My project is supposed to relate to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and make a statement about human rights.

Reflection Nov. 1

Looking Back:

• Finished my patterns and repetition project
• Started thinking of an idea for the juxtaposition project
• Practiced different types of stitches

Looking Forward:

• Start curator project
• Start juxtaposition project

Takeaways:

• Sometimes I need help to decide if a project is officially finished or not
• I'm having trouble thinking of a juxtaposition project

Stencils And Stamps Testings

Reflection Oct. 11

Looking Back:

• Officially finished my translucency project
• Practiced with different mediums such as spray paint and stamps
• Carved a stamp
• Started a tiny bit of the new project (maybe)

Looking Forward:

• This weekend I need to work on more of an idea since I missed most of today's class
• Get started on my project

Takeaways:

• I don't like the Friday schedule
• My spray-paint skills aren't that great on the other hand I made a good stencil and stamp

Newspaper Project

"Evolution"

      This piece was different than any other piece that I have done. Starting with not knowing what the end piece was going to be. The strings represent the web in which we started the project with and connects different themes. 

Reflection Sep. 27

Looking Back:

• Using wax and layering objects was new to me
• It was fun learning/trying new ways to layer objects and also bringing it some of the nature aspect into the art

Looking Forward:

• I'm almost done with my project and I'm working on the "motion" of it; where the viewer's eyes go to first. Also how they move through the piece
• I think I have a good grasp of the theme but it is still in the works

Takeaways:

• Working with wax also getting a lot of my ideas as the piece goes on

Reflection Sep. 20

Looking Back:

• This week I got a lot done from finishing my newspaper project to getting an idea for the new project
• I think I really accomplished something in the newspaper project and I'm liking how it turned out

Looking Forward:

• For the translucency project I'm thinking of doing the past, present, and future for my main topic "Evolution". Plus nature
• So far I have just cut out some extinct plants and animals and asked my stepdad to cut a piece of plywood for the project

Takeaways:

• I've never worked with newspaper so it was interesting working with new materials
• Also I liked the process of not knowing what was next and I think it made things a bit less stressful

Newspaper & Art Find

"Citizen K", by Nick Georgiou

     Many of the newspaper art that I found seemed, to me, to be unoriginal. The way that the artists might have used the newspaper might have been cool but the "story" behind it was not deep. Georgiou had a very unique style. Although his work is a bit odd and not exactly my taste I still like the way he uses newspaper to create 3D sculptures but can also add his own twist. I liked the piece above the most because the newspaper structure is standing on its own and it looks like it was carefully done; each newspaper piece is rolled up just so.
